RUTX50 Slow Wifi performance

I have a RUTX50 installed on my caravan connected to a Poytning MIMO-3-15 for (both LTE and Wifi antennas) - (Yes I’m aware the Poytning only has 2 LTE antennas and the RUTX50 should have 4 LTE antennas).

My LTE performance is OK - my getting 227/18 Mbps from a Speedtest from on the router at my current location.

However the Wifi performance is poor. I’m running iperf3 on the rutx50 and from a couple of different client machine 10 metres away from the caravan I’m getting about 7 Mbps on 2.4 Ghz wifi. On 5 Ghz wifi I get about 15 Mbps.

As a comparison if I plug in the client directly to the router via a LAN cable I get 800-900 Mbps.

I have split my Wifi into 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

For the 2.4Ghz I have the radio set to:

Mode N
Channel Auto
Width 20 Mhz
Transmit Power 100%
Allow legacy 802.11b rates - on

For the 5Ghz I have the radio set to:

Mode AC
Channel Auto
Width 20 Mhz
Transmit Power 100%
Allow legacy 802.11b rates - on

Other settings are blank/default.

Any thoughts suggestions on improving the wifi performance?

Regards,

Jason

Hey,

do you use the newest firmware, as there were changes for the wireless, where the drivers were updated to newer version, which should improve the speed?

Thanks for your reponse.

Yes - I’ve updated the firmware:

Firmware version - RUTX_R_00.07.09
Firmware build date - 2024-08-29 19:58:25
Internal Modem Firmware version: RG501QEUAAR12A11M4G_04.200.04.200
Kernel version 5.10.221

Turn off “Allow legacy rates” in general as slows down everything and is mostly not needed.
80 MHz instead of 20 MHz for 5 GHz WiFi gives you way more speed and a wireless range which is probably fully enough for a caravan.
