we have just installed new RUTX50 modem

From time to time, we are getting Internal modem is unreachable errors and mobile connection goes down. Lately, it happens more than before and we are unable to find a root cause for it. It was happening on previous firmware as it is happening on the latest. One of the symptoms was also when new client connected to wifi, this error popped up, but this was not happening always. We also switched power supply without success.

Based on other topics, these are the output that might be relevant (these are two consecutive runs of the same command within 5 seconds).

You need to check your signal level. Majority of problems with internal modem are caused by weak signal. Your diagnostic data is misleading you.

Ok, thanks. We were using this antenna, so just for a sake of testing, will switch back to original small ones to see if this would impact the issues.

Make sure you screw connectors tight. Loose antenna connection can cause same issues even if signal is strong. Talking from personal experience. Also, some people make mistakes when using external antenna by having a very looooong cables from the antenna to the device. This can cause issues too.

Hey, thanks everyone for support!

I have collected an hour long gsmctl -q readings (30s intervals) for each antenna (original ones and Panorama one with 30cm cable length) and put the results into Claude to prepare me some comparison and the following are the results (Avtodom is Panorama antenna, Sobna is original antenna)

I have paid attention to connect all Panorama connectors in appropriate order (Class A → ANT0, Class B → ANT1, …) and these were the results. As it seems, everything is working normal (no USB disconnects in dmesg, wireguard tunnel stable, wifi working as expected).

Additionally, I have ran /usr/bin/wireguard_watchdog to ensure the stability of wireguard tunnel, if that is somehow related.

Can there be something else that I’ve accidently changed with multiple reboots that impacted the performance? I haven’t change any other configuration (just the watchdog)…

I am still puzzled why would mobile signal strenght cause USB disconnects, though. When modem will be on the road, the signal strength will definitely change :confused:

Hey,

I have filled up the forms.

Meanwhile, I had replaced the power connector, power source, reconnect the antennas and everything was working fine for a while and now the whole thing started to repeat.

Basically, when you connect to the wifi router starts to act weird: you are not able to connect to internet, you get disconnected from wifi, you get reconnected, then router is not connected to mobile, …

We want to sincerely apologize for the experience you’ve had with your device and for the delays in getting back to you.

With the help of the information provided on our forum, our R&D team analyzed the situation and identified the issue, which was escalated to the modem manufacturer with critical priority. Now we’ve received a new firmware, which passed internal tests, so please test whenever possible.

If you are currently on modem firmware A05 (also soon there will be updates from older versions to newest A06 version as well - keep an eye on it), please update using the WebUI DFOTA method:

  1. Navigate to System → Firmware → Update Firmware → Modem update.

  2. Proceed with the update from the server.

You should be able to run on 5G again without the instability after this is applied.

If you encounter any issues after applying the update, please reply here and we’ll ensure it receives prompt attention.

Hey,

thank you for your support. I’ve upgraded the modem firmware to A06 release and at the moment, everything seems to be working fine (5G works, eSIM works, wifi seems stable,…).

I am glad it was a software solution to the problem, since the reseller (Jakob Elektronik GmbH) did not honor warranty claim, since the model has signs of wear due installation on DIN rails.
