RUTX50 - Future Firmware Request

Recently noticed that it’s possible to have a text message or an email if the device’s signal strength becomes out of range.

I have a signal strength that varies between -40dBm and -50dBm which i understand is excellent.

However, occasionally for no obvious reason and probably beyond my control it deteriorates suddenly to a value in excess of -70dBm and connectivity suffers.

Forget where but somewhere i think i’ve created a rule whereby if the signal strength reaches -60dBm for 10 mins the modem reboots. No idea if this is actually happening.

Knowing what is a normal signal strength range for you it would be nice to have a rule whereby if the signal deteriorates beyond a user defined value a text or email would be sent.

Example:

My normal signal strength range is say -40dBm to -50dBm, it would be great to have a rule to get a text if the signal suffers beyond say -55dBm for 10 mins.

Thresholds rather than ranges, or both.

Hello,

To receive a report when the signal strength drops below or falls within a specified dBm range, you can use the Event Reporting feature (Services → Events Reporting). This allows you to configure email or SMS notifications when such an event occurs:

More details on this functionality can be found here.

Additionally, you may find the Low Signal Reconnect function (Network → Mobile → Connection) useful as well, which relates to your described created rule. This feature enables automatic modem operator connection resets when the signal strength falls below a defined threshold.

Best regards,

Thank you Martynas,

This is the rule i tried and received a number of texts saying the signal strength was better than -50dBm whereas i was hoping to have a rule whereby i could get a message when the signal strength was worse than say -60dBn only. My signal strength is almost always better than -50dBm.

In this case, there’s -75 dBm -60 dBm range:

Kind regards,

Does the rule you have chosen mean:

If the signal strength falls into the range 75 to 60 you get a message?

If the signal strength falls outside the range 75 to 60 you get a message?

Both!?

Asking if it’s possible in future to choose /define a threshold of say a value of 60 as an example and choose if it goes above or below this value for a defined amount of time to get a message. A lot less messages unless the user value is too close to what is their normal signal range.

The event report triggers only when the signal strength falls within the specified range.

Regarding your suggestion, a similar function is already implemented in RMS Alerts & Automations, where you can configure notifications when the signal strength drops below a defined threshold (e.g., <-70 dBm:

Best regards,

Thank you once more, that clears things up. I’ll give it another go now that i understand better what the rule means.

Unfortunately, i don’t subscribe to your RMS Service so i can’t take advantage of your second suggestion.
