Hi,
I’m running a RUTM52 with multiple WAN links and want to route traffic differently depending on its type:
- Latency-critical traffic should always go over the single best available link, no splitting, just clean failover if that link drops (Failover)
- High-bandwidth traffic can be distributed across the remaining links to maximize throughput (Load Balancing)
From what I understand, this should be achievable with rule-based policy routing, defining separate Rules, Members and Policies per traffic type.
However, in the Multi-WAN general settings I can only select Failover or Load Balancing as the global mode. The documentation states that only one of them can be activated the same time, so I’m not sure if I can archive this behavior. But the help text mentions a Custom mode but I don’t see a way to activate it, I attached a picture of this option below.
My questions:
-
Are Failover and Load Balancing just presets that pre-populate the Policies, Members and Rules, meaning I can freely customize everything underneath regardless of which mode is selected?
-
Is there a way to explicitly activate Custom mode, or is it already implicitly active once I start editing Policies/Rules manually?
-
Is the use case described above achievable on this firmware, and if so, what’s the recommended approach?
Hardware: RUTM 52
Firmware: RUTM_R_00.07.21.3
Thanks in advance and Greetings.
