RUTM51 loses connection to IP camera and does not reconnect the camera

We have a set-up with a RUTM51 router which gets internet from an ODIDO sim card (unlimited), and which has two IP cameras (Dahua) connected via LAN.

In principle, the setup has worked well for some time, but lately, we are experiencing a specific issue: the camera loses connection to the router at some point (not clear why, but often goes hand in hand with a camera reboot action) and is not reconnected to the RUTM51 router once the camera restart has completed. Interestingly, however, the camera does still work OK stand-alone after the camera restart. That is, we have an SD card inside the camera, and when the camera is then forced to restart by shortly unplugging the power source to the camera, it does come back online and then it shows on the SD card that the camera has been recording all the time that it was not reconnected to the RUTM51 router and therefore offline.

So, in summary; the IP camera goes offline in the RUTM51 configuration and cannot be accessed at all anymore (not via the router, not directly via its IP address, not via the NVR, or anything), but it seems to still function properly. The only way to get the camera online again is to unplug the camera from the power source for a few seconds. Rebooting the RUTM51 router does not solve the issue, and still does not show the camera (no DHCP leases, nothing connected via LAN).

What we do notice, when looking at the maintenance log of the router, is a whole series of interchanging UP and DOWN switch events on the LAN port that the camera is connected to. See screenshot below:

This goes on forever until we do the power disconnection / reconnection action to the camera.

Any suggestions for a solution are warmly welcomed!!

Good afternoon,

The repeated UP/DOWN events on the LAN port indicate possible cable or port issues. Try replacing the Ethernet cable connecting the camera to the router and test with a different LAN port on the RUTM51. Faulty cables or ports can cause link flapping and loss of connectivity

Since only a full power cycle of the camera restores connectivity, ensure the camera’s power supply is stable and sufficient. Power fluctuations can cause the camera’s network interface to become unstable without a full reboot.

Upgrade the device’s firmware to the newest also.

Verify the camera’s IP addressing mode. Sometimes setting a static IP within the router’s subnet and outside the DHCP range can improve stability. Also, check the router’s DHCP lease time and IP conflicts that might cause the camera to lose its IP lease.

Arturas

Thank you Arturas,

we have replaced the cables between the router and the camera and that has indeed solved the issues. We suspect now that the UTP cable was the cause of the issues (we separated data from power by using 2 separate cables, then still experienced issues, but when we then replaced the data cable, all issues were solved.

thanks again!
