RUTC50 failing sms sending and openvpn issue

Hi, I’ve a brand new Teltonika RUTC50 and configured it quite well. Already working with a mobile connection on 5G with a unique sim, but there are three issues I’m not able to fix:

  • I can regularly receive sms, but I can’t send them. Every attempt results in: “Failed to send message” alert in top right of the web ui. I tried also to setup the Auto Reply feature in SMS Gateway, but no reply was received on my phone
  • I tried to setup a Call Rule in Call Utilities, with the action Get status and restriction on my phone number, but even in this case no message was received by my phone
  • I configured a OpenVPN client connection and it’s working, but in the client list is reported as disconnected up to when I try to open an IP in the VPN network. After launching VPN connection logs are ok, last one seems to confirm it was established (Initialization Sequence Completed), but only when I try access an IP the client list is updated with the green status of connected.

Is there any check or configuration I’m missing to do?

I would first recommend upgrading to the latest firmware version:

Regarding SMS sending and call rule issues:

  1. Please try to send an SMS from a different device using that sim card first.

  2. Check whether SMS storage is full. If it is, both receiving and sending SMS stops working. You can check it in Services > Mobile Utilities > Messages and the “Storage” tab. Here you can change where you want to save messages (either SIM card or Modem storage) and check how many messages are used from available space. If it’s full, clear up some space by going to the “Read Messages” tab.

  3. If you have an SMS limit enabled, I suggest checking if it has been reached. If so, the SMS limit can be cleared in the Network → Mobile → SMS Limit

  4. Also, it’s worth contacting your service provider to check if everything is working on their side.

Regarding VPN:

Yes, this happens, even if the connection between the client and server is successful, in OpenVPN windows it might still show disconnected for a short time or even until you refresh the page. I suggest always refreshing the page, that helps. The best way to Indicate the connection is by checking logs and trying to ping from/to tunneled devices.
