RUT955 WAN randomly swapping over to 4G

Hello. We started seeing Teltonikas swapping over to it’s backup 4G connection, this is happening while the Wired WAN connection is up and stable. It’s obvious it’s running on Mobile when navigating to Status + Network + Mobile section. Even “restarting connection” will bring it back to the Wired WAN but only for a short time, then fails back over to 4G. Also there is no indication from the logs that this is happening.

The fix I’ve found is to disable the Mobile interface, reboot & re-enable. Was wondering if anyone is seeing this as well?

Hello!

Could you possibly share your failover configurations? Please avoid having the IP addresses / any other sensitive information visible within the screenshots.

Thank you kindly,

It’s obvious it’s running on Mobile

How this was noticed? Just by looking at mobile status? In this case it needs to be known that even though mobile makes connection it can be unused until device failovers to it.

Every 5 seconds, pings go out to cloudflare & google; 2 replies it’s considered up & 7 no replies considered down.

This was noticed by ping response times (and our SIM providers data usage reports). Once we saw high data usage from our SIM provider, RMS would say that Teltonika is running on Wired but upon investigation we found it was truly on Mobile. High ping response, then Restarting Connection on the Mobile interface would bring ping response times much lower (indicating connection went back to the Wired connection).

Hi

If so you are correct. Also config looks alright.

As first cause I would suggest checking if mobile is not getting IPv6 if it does then on mobile interface change PDP type to IPv4.

Context: current failover service only works for IPv4 (even if it would do your wired connection might not have IPv6) but most devices prefer IPv6 if they get it thus going around failover preference.
