Rut955 rut9_r_00.07.06.16 Editing MAC list

A new nice feature of this firmware!
I wanted to change MAC filter list in menu “Network>Wireless>SSIDs”. I pressed button “Edit” then changed to tab “MAC-Filter”. I opened MAC-list, checked an entry, this one appeared at the top together with a cross for deletion. Any attempt to use this cross and so to delete the entry failed.
What to do?
Thanks and BR Guenther

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry.

The cross icon for deleting a MAC address entry in the “Network → Wireless → SSID Edit → MAC-Filter” section should indeed function as intended. Whether there are single or multiple entries in the list, you should be able to click the cross to remove a selected MAC address.

There are a couple of things to consider:

  1. Did any error message appear while trying to delete the entry? If so, this could help identify the issue.
  2. If the MAC address entry includes a long name or details, ensure that you are accurately clicking on the cross icon.

If the issue persists and you are unable to delete the entry, you might try clearing the entire MAC list and then re-adding only the desired entries.

Best Regards,

Hello Martynas,
thank you very much for your advice.
Regarding point 1: There is no error message.
Regarding point 2: You’re kidding, right? Before I submitted this bug report, I tried to hit the cross x times, but nothing happened.
Regarding your last sentence: If you explain to me how to delete the whole list without deleting the whole interface, or even resetting the whole device, I’ll do it immediately.
I expect that this error will be fixed in development and that a new version of this firmware will be released shortly.
Thanks.
Best regards
Guenther

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

If I understand correctly, you are unable to remove a MAC address filter entry by pressing the cross icon next to it. If that’s the case, it is indeed unusual, as I have tested this functionality on a RUT955 running firmware version 07.06.16. In my tests, MAC entries can be removed in two ways:

  1. By unchecking the blue square next to the entry in the list.

  2. By clicking the cross icon next to the entry.

Additionally, you can delete the entire MAC filter list by disabling and re-enabling the MAC filter option.

Best regards,

Hello Martynas,
thank you for your feedback.
Well, firstly I again tried each and every listbox, blue square, cross icon, save button - no success.
The second option, selecting “Disable” and re-selecting “Allow listed only” in select box “MAC-Address Filter” also did not show any results.
Now I even changed the browser from FireFox to MS Edge; also no success.
Last option: I deleted the complete Access Point and re-engineered it from scratch. Yet there wasn’t really a scratch, means an empty MAC-Filter list. Instead it showed all entries from the list of Static Leases in menu DHCP, regardless of it’s connectivity, wired or wireless; this seemed to be a bit strange to me. But even with this newly configured Access Point, I could not delete entries.
Now, what do you suggest? A remote session? If yes, please instruct me what to prepare.

Guenther
P.S.: I updated to firmware 07.06.16 with option to keep configuration. This shouldn’t be a problem, because changing the last field in the firmware version record (16) depicts a minor change.

Hello Guenther,

Thank you for the update.

If not done yet, could you try performing a factory reset on the device (if feasible) and then reconfiguring it from scratch?

If the issue persists even after the reset, please complete and submit the form I’ve sent you. When filling out the form, for the ticket ID, please specify 10903.

This will allow us to reach out privately and troubleshoot the issue more effectively.

Best regards,

Hello Martynas,
thanks for your reply.
I performed the factory reset and the error disappeared. The entries can now be deleted, as you showed in your example.

I don’t want to close this case without a comment, however. It is not the first time since the introduction of firmware 07.YY.ZZ that Teltonika has made changes to the firmware that have led to an incompatibility of the configuration record, but have only been displayed in the third position of the firmware name, i.e. “ZZ”. In addition, the WebUI always offered the option of leaving the configuration as it is (by default “Keep settings” = “on” in menu “Firmware>Update Firmware”); in addition, there were no corresponding notes in the Teltonika changelog; at least there should be a note there when a factory reset is necessary.

I have to ask Teltonika’s release- and quality-management questions. I can’t believe it! I spent hours trying to find the error with your help, including a factory reset at the end of the day. I am a customer with only one RUT955 installed in my camper; I can play with firmware versions in the winter without a loss of productivity. But imagine a larger industrial plant in which many of these devices are installed. The maintenance staff of this plant will be grateful if, after a minor update (“ZZ”), the device function itself is suddenly called into question without any notice, and dozens of routers may have to be reconfigured unplanned. In concrete terms, this means a loss of productivity and therefore high costs for the plant operator.

My opinion on the fields of the version record XX.YY.ZZ:
XX = Re-factoring
Will definitely result in changes to the configuration record, this was the case with the transition from 6.YY.ZZ to 7.YY.ZZ
YY = Feature update, functional update
Can result in changes to the configuration record
ZZ = Error correction
Must not result in changes to the configuration record

In particular, there should not be a blanket choice as to whether or not the configuration should be left as it is, but rather a message should appear on the WebUI, controlled by the image, when a new configuration is necessary. At least in the change log there should be a note (see above). This would prevent unintentional downtimes of the device.

Thank you for your support.
Have a nice Advent season.

Kind regards

Guenther
