RUT950 - sim card not inserted

Hi all,

Looking for advice on an intermittent error I am seeing with my RUT950.

It has worked well for a couple of months but I have recently started getting errors where the status page shows that there is no Sim Card inserted (even when there is).

When troubleshooting I cannot find a way to get the SIM card to show up again. Sometimes a reboot works, sometimes taking the card carrier in and out again works and sometimes neither of these work one day but the next they will.

I have done the following to troubleshoot:

  • Updated to the latest firmware RUT9M_R_00.07.04.3 with no change in behaviour.
  • the same issue with this firmware RUT9_R_00.07.02.4 .RUT9_R_00.07.02.7
  • Done a full reset followed by upload of my backup file which worked for less than 6 hours before the fault re-occured.
  • Carried out a full reset this morning and re-entered my settings (only the critical settings, no port forwards etc.). This worked for 1 hour before failing again. 30 minutes later the connection came back up but then failed after another 40 minutes.

My head is now saying this is a hardware failure as I have tried all the routes possible to solve beyond replacing the SIM card (which works in a 4G iPad with no issues at all).

Please advise what I can attempt next

kind regards

Aleksander

Hello,

There is a possibility that the issue is with the SIM slot itself. Have you tried SIM slot 2? Does it work properly then?

Also, could you please share some of the system logs after the issue occurs again? System logs can be viewed from System → Administration → Troubleshoot page. Please, blur/hide any sensitive information, such as public IP addresses, before sharing your logs here.

Kind Regards,

Hi,

I changed to SIM-card 2, but its the same problem.
Works fine for 1-2 days and then it stops.

Hello,

The logs do not indicate any SIM card issues.

Where is the device placed?

For testing, would it be possible for you to try placing a piece of paper or tape on the SIM card to increase its thickness (avoid placing it over the chip)? This might help address any potential issues with the SIM card losing contact.

Kind Regards,

Hi,

it’s placed on a wall, but we had it laying down for a few days but its the same issue, even with tape behinde the sim-card. works fine for some hourse and then stops working…sim card not innserted

can this me a issus even on the newest firmware?

Hello,

No, I do not think that this is related. You are having SIM card detection issues.

The logs you have posted do not contain much information about the mobile issues. Would it be possible for you to access System logs again after the issue occurs and copy the logs from around the time when the connection is lost?

There was a new firmware released, could you try updating to see if it makes any difference in your case? Make sure to update with ‘keep settingsdisabled to avoid other issues. For RUT950, the firmware can be downloaded from here.

Also, what is the firmware version of the internal modem? You can find it in Status → System under ‘Internal modem’.

Kind Regards,

Hello,
I suggest you to upgrade the firmware to the latest available and released a few days ago RutOS 7.5, because I saw in the Changelog fixes that might be important to you with detection SIM card and potentially fixes for other issues related to the topic.

Some of the changes I saw:

  • Ability to unblock SIM card and insert SIM PIN in Overview page
  • Serving cell information is not returned anymore when SIM card is not inserted
  • Fixed carrier aggregation information when no connection is made or SIM card is not inserted
  • Fixed WebUI showing mobile connection when no SIM card is inserted

Then try to check again if something changes.

Kind Regards.
