RUT950 Routers do not switch sim card

Hello I have encountered a problem, I like that the default sim card switch over to sim 2, when roaming is discovered. Have tried on 2 pcs of 950 routers today, Both fail to do this change of card in use.
During the switch is router “Restating” and is unreachable and start over with default sim card again.
As default does I like use a sim card from UK provider EE but that is not doing anything of this command, totally nothing. Not even try to switch over to the other card.
Was making a test with 2 sim cards from the Swedish providers 'three, as default, and other card from Tele2. Same they does not execute the command.

Thanks in advance for assist in this matter

Hello,

Can you confirm if the device successfully connects to the network when the SIM card from slot 2 is inserted into SIM slot 1?

Have you configured SIM swith on both SIM cards? Have you tried increasing the SIM switch interval and number of attemps in the SIM switch settings?

Is ‘deny data roaming’ disabled for both SIM cards in Network → Mobile → General?

Also, what firmware version are you running? If it isn’t the most recent version, I recommend updating it. When doing so, please ensure the ‘keep settings’ option is disabled to avoid potential issues that could arise from migrating current configurations to the updated firmware.

Kind Regards,

Hello Andzej
Thanks for reply
Can you confirm if the device successfully connects to the network when the SIM card from slot 2 is inserted into SIM slot 1?
A: when I change priority from sim 1 to sim 2 is the connetion done to provider.

Have you configured SIM swith on both SIM cards? Have you tried increasing the SIM switch interval and number of attemps in the SIM switch settings?
A: Yes on sim 1 on roaming, sim 2 after 1000 minutes back to default card.
Have not increased interval or attempts.

Is ‘deny data roaming’ disabled for both SIM cards in Network → Mobile → General?
A: Now it is only sim 1 that should have that setting.

Also, what firmware version are you running? If it isn’t the most recent version, I recommend updating it. When doing so, please ensure the ‘keep settings’ option is disabled to avoid potential issues that could arise from migrating current configurations to the updated firmware.
A: sending over a path to my google photo, where I shear a video of behave of 1 of the routers.

Attach also the system log is show below.

Hello,

Could you please connect to the device via command line and execute the following command:

  • logread -f

This will start logging in real time. Then, keep this window open and proceed with forcing a SIM switch and give it a a few minutes to generate logs. Please, post these logs. Prior to posting, please ensure to mask or hide any sensitive information, such as public IP addresses or serial numbers.

Kind Regards,

Hi again Andzej

Hello,

Apologies for a delayed response.

I would assume that the device tries to switch to a different SIM card on roaming, but the connection cannot be established on that SIM, so after some time the device switches to the first SIM again.

From the first logs, it seems that the device uses internet.tele2.se’ as an APN and successfully connects. However, the second logs show an APN value of ‘everywhere’ and fails to connect to the operator. Could you please double check if that is the correct APN to use in your case? Have you tried other APNs?

Also, can you please tell what is the firmware version of the internal modem? It can be found it Status → System.

Kind Regards,

Good morning Andzej
thanks for answer.
Firmware modem is EC25ECGAR06A04M1G_01.004.01.004
APN for EE uk card should be everywhere , according the homepage of them, have tried auto no changes.

APN for sim card 2 the swedish provider tele2 is set to auto. but that is not give any trouble.

BRGDS
Mike

Hello,

The modem’s firmare is rather old. I would suggest updating the modem. Start by trying the “dfota -u” command. If that command is not available, you can use the modem updater. However, it’s essential to be cautious as updating the modem can potentially cause issues, especially if the device experiences power or internet connectivity problems during the process.

To ensure a smooth update, make sure the device is connected to a stable power source and use an alternative internet connection, such as Wired WAN or Wireless in client mode. To set Wired WAN as the primary WAN, go to Network → Interfaces and drag it to the top of the list of interfaces.

You can find detailed modem update instructions in this post here.

Kind Regards,

Hello Andzej
Thanks for this suggestion but when I am onboard a vessel where a other connection is not possible. then will I stay where it is and consider a replacement of the router to a new instead. thanks a lot for al efforts you have been putting into this case. Mike

Good morning Andzej
I have found a solution in this matter.
Beside the deny roaming
Have included sim card switch when “On data connection fail” . and then is it working.
Best Regards
Mike
