Subject:
Dear Teltonika Support,
I am requesting assistance with a RUT260 that has become unstable after operating reliably for several months.
Device details
- Model: RUT260
- Current firmware: RUT2M_R_00.07.23.7
- Previous firmware: RUT2M_R_00.07.19.4
- Mobile operator: EE (UK)
Problem description
The router intermittently loses connectivity, causing loss of internet connection. RMS also loses connection. RMS log as follows:-
16:13:55 Authentication was success. Waiting for reconnection… 16:54:48 The device is redirected to the authentication system.
The issue typically occurs every 30–60 minutes, although the interval varies.
The router has been upgraded to the latest firmware, but the problem persists.
Troubleshooting already completed
- Upgraded to firmware RUT2M_R_00.07.23.7.
- Confirmed the EE network is operational.
- Confirmed the SIM is working.
- Configured Connectivity Watchdog (issue still occurs).
- Router is powered from its original AC power adapter (not PoE).
- The router is remotely managed via RMS, although it becomes unreachable when the fault occurs.
Key observations from the logs
The Events Log contains multiple entries of:
Device startup after unexpected shutdown
These unexpected shutdowns have occurred on multiple dates over several months occasionally as shown below although, in the last 48 hours they’re happening every hour approximately.
- 2026-02-06
- 2026-02-11
- 2026-02-23
- 2026-02-25
- 2026-02-26
- 2026-04-29
- 2026-05-01
- 2026-05-31
- 2026-07-28
- 2026-08-02
The system log also shows repeated RMS MQTT disconnects with messages such as:
- “Mosquitto disconnected: Keepalive exceeded”
- “Protocol error”
- “Connection timeout”
- “Reached max connection attempts”
These are followed by reconnection attempts until the router later reports an unexpected startup.
Immediately after the firmware upgrade there was also an event reporting:
SIM state changed to not inserted (internal modem)
although the modem subsequently reconnected successfully.
Installation environment
The router is installed in a roof space. RMS has reported the router’s device temperature reaching approximately 50°C during recent hot weather. I do not know the actual ambient temperature within the roof space.
Files that could be attached
- Troubleshoot archive (.tar.gz)
- Events log
- (Cant upload as new user, although I’ve been a user for some years)
Questions
- Can you determine from the attached logs were I able to upload them, what caused the repeated “Device startup after unexpected shutdown” events?
- Do the logs indicate a watchdog reset, hardware reset, modem crash, thermal issue, or power-related event?
- Are there any known issues affecting the RUT260 under these conditions?
- Based on the logs, do you recommend replacing the router or the power supply?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Yours, Richard
