RUT241 reconnecting every 24h

Not sure what is causing reconnection to mobile network every 24h at exactly same time.

Recently I have upgraded firmware and different SIM so it could be router or operator.

When problem started there was modem firmware update available so I upgraded hoping that it will help but no, still reconnecting.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any notes with fw versions before and after problem started.

Some help to read logs and resolve issues would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Please avoid sharing troubleshoot files on public forums, as they contain sensitive device information and could pose a security risk.

Regarding the issue, after reviewing the logs, I noticed that before the mobile connection is lost, the router sends three SMS messages to a specific phone number at the same time every day. Approximately 4-5 minutes later, the connection drops.

Could you please specify what kind of SMS messages these are? It’s possible they might be contributing to the issue.

Best regards,

SMS is sent from HomeAssistant informing about status of solar system, so not related to the disconnections.

Thank you for the clarification. I will consult with our RnD team regarding this issue and update you as soon as I receive any information from them.

Best regards,

Now there was update available, so it is updated to RUT2M_R_00.07.13.
Will monitor and see how it goes.

Well it is only 24h but reconnect happening again. This time it is 24h after boot from update. Before it reconnect was at 14:00 now it is 12:42. So if tomorrow it wil be same time, reconnect is happening 24h after boot.

Like a clockwork, reconnect again 12:42 so clearly problem stil there.

Any feedback from RND team?

I’m running GNSS RTK base station there so disconnection even for 30 sec is not acceptable…

Hello,

We expect to receive feedback from the RnD team regarding this issue next week.

Thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

All this time mobile connection was reset like a clockwork every 24h.
Now noticed available update for 00.07.13.1
Now connection time after boot 23:44, will see how it will behave tomorrow.

Hello,

I received feedback from our developers, and it appears that the issue is related to the operator’s configuration. The operator provides a lease every hour for 23 times, after which the IP address changes.

We recommend contacting the carrier to confirm whether this behavior with the mobile.o2.co.uk APN is expected. It may be helpful to inquire about a different plan that offers a static IP address.

Best regards,

Changing IP after reconnection is absolutely normal, that is how any mobile operator works. Why it happens every 24 after boot?

I’ve consulted with our developers regarding this issue, and they suggested adding the line option dhcp '0' to the config interface 'mob1s1a1' section to resolve it. Here are the steps to make this change:

  1. Log in to your router via SSH/CLI (more details here: Command Line Interfaces)
  2. Run the command vi /etc/config/network
  3. Locate config interface 'mob1s1a1' and press “i” to enter edit mode
  4. Add the line option dhcp '0' under the mobile configuration section
  5. Press “Esc”, then type :wq and hit Enter to save and close the file

Please let me know if this resolves the issue!

Best regards,

Thank You! Do I need to reboot for changes to take effect?

You can execute /etc/init.d/network restart command to apply the changes and restart the configurations.

Please let me know if this helps!

Best regards,

Unfortunately setting DHCP to 0 didn’t help.

As far as I know DHCP renewal on O2 network is every 30 min.

I contacted provider and they said that there’s no known technical issues or possible settings that they could do, so basically fobbed me off…

Hello,
