RUT241 not working with 4G and Hikvision camera

Hello,
I spoke with Willes from Teltonika, and he told me to drop my problem heren:
I purchased this RUT241, but I can’t get it to work. The set looks like this: Rut241 connected to a Hikvision DS-2CD6425G1-XX camera set.

The camera is available via Wi-Fi through the RUT241.

The camera is not available via 4G.

With the same SIM card and a RUT240, the camera is immediately available via 4G.

It appears that something in the software is not working via 4G, which means that no image is being transmitted.

My colleague with the RUT240 can see the camera immediately via 4G with the same SIM card. (without port forwarding etc)

If there is a known solution for this, I would like to hear about it. Otherwise, I would like to return this RUT241 because I can’t get it to work.

Hi…

I am not a Teltonika employee.

Have you look at the ip address of the SIM CARD, when connected to RUT240/RUT241?

It is a public ip address for both devices?

The SIM card is fully functional, and I can also access the internet via 4G on my mobile phone and desktop computer, but the RUT241 does not recognize the camera. (The 240 does recognize it immediately, without any adjustments to the configuration/factory settings.)

Greetings, @Focus,

Welcome to Teltonika Community!

Could you please clarify whether there are any port forwarding rules currently configured on your RUT240 and RUT241 devices? This information will help determine if incoming connections are being properly routed to the end device within your local network.

Port forwarding allows external access to a device located behind the router by forwarding specific ports to the internal IP address of that device. For this to work, the end device must have the relevant service running and listening on the specified port.

You can find a step-by-step example on how to configure port forwarding in this guide:

Please let me know how the testing goes or if you notice anything unusual in the configuration.

Warm regards,
V.

i cant testing now, but At this moment, port forwarding is NOT active on either the RUT 240 or the RUT 241. So it works without port forwarding on the 240.

A little further information may be useful, and we’ll concentrate on referring to the RUT241 only ….

I am assuming your setup is as follows:

  • the camera is connected to the RUT241 via a network cable
  • for local access, using a PC (or similar) you connect to the router via WiFi and can access the camera
  • for remote access, you cannot access the camera using the Public IP of the router in conjunction with the port that you have configured to forward on to the camera

As a suggestion, for security purposes, I would caution against using Port Forwarding for remote access, it’s far more secure using a VPN. So, assuming you’d like to continue with the Port Forwarding option, can you ….

a) confirm that the SIM you are using has a Public routable IP

b) confirm that you are not using a VPN to access remotely

c) confirm that the camera is assigned an IP address from the RUT241, as a Static Lease and there is no fixed ip configured on the actual camera

d) confirm that the camera is plugged into the RUT241, in a port that is on VLAN 1 (the default lan)

e) confirm that the RUT241 mobile interface is operating in the default NAT mode and it is not configured in ‘Bridge’ or ‘Passthrough’ mode

f) confirm that the router can ping 8.8.8.8

g) post the actual port forward rule(s) you have configured - you may have more than one rule, depending on your use case i.e. HTTP, RTSP, SDK

h) confirm that you are trying to access the camera remotely using a browser, and not HikConnect or iVMS.

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well.

When you have the opportunity, could you please clarify the questions raised by @Mike and share the outcome of the tests?

I look forward to your reply.

Best wishes,
V.
