RUT241 "Failed to login due to unexpected error"

Hi
Today I got an error message when in the WebUI when trying to login to RUT241 “Failed to login due to unexpected error”, it is not wrong password, and it is only possible to login to SSH.
Power off/on or Reboot does not solve the issue.

From CLI command: logread -f

1480 Sun Feb 9 11:27:04 2025 kern.notice User “admin” successfully authenticated on HTTP from 192.168.2.186 to 192.168.2.1
1481 Sun Feb 9 11:27:04 2025 daemon.err uhttpd[1928]: vuci: accepted login for admin from 192.168.2.186

Please advice.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

Could you confirm whether the same error appears when attempting to access the WebUI from a device connected to the router via WiFi?

Additionally:

  • Were there any configuration changes made before this issue started occurring?
  • Which firmware version is currently installed on your RUT241 (if possible to check)?

As a troubleshooting step, please try executing the following commands via SSH to see if it makes any difference:

/etc/init.d/uhttpd restart
/etc/init.d/uhttpd reload

If the issue persists, and if feasible could you attempt a factory reset and check if that resolves the problem?

Let me know the results or if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Thanks for your answer

I got same error from WiFI or Ethernet and have also tested with diffrent web browsers.
I have also executed the CLI commands:
/etc/init.d/uhttpd restart
/etc/init.d/uhttpd reload

Error still remain persistent.

The firmware version:
Device: RUT241
Kernel: 5.15.171
Firmware: RUT2M_R_00.07.12
Build: 51b3ff0af29
Build date: 2025-01-17 11:43:47

There has not been and configuration changes what I can remember, so the isssue is weird unless there has been a hacker attack, but this RUT 241 is installed inside a intranet protected by other Teltonika router.

If there are no there solution then I need to try factory reset and restore with last backup.

Hi there,
i have the same issue on a RUT200 with exactly the same Kernel/Firmware/Build.

I have done a configuration change over the RMS Portal to change the LAN-Address of the device before the error appears. Reboot doesn’t solve the problem.

In the logs it says:
604 Tue Feb 11 11:22:18 2025 kern.notice User “admin” successfully authenticated on HTTPS from 10.1.0.253 to 10.1.0.50
605 Tue Feb 11 11:22:18 2025 daemon.err uhttpd[1928]: vuci: accepted login for admin from 10.1.0.253

Regards
Alex

Hello,

Thank you for your patience.

Currently, there was found a workaround for solving this issue without requiring a factory reset. Please follow these steps:

  1. When logged in via SSH, remove the directory /overlay/upper/usr/local/share/vuci/menu.d by executing the command:
rm /overlay/upper/usr/local/share/vuci/menu.d
  1. Reboot the router.

This should allow you to log back into the router’s WebUI.

Let me know if this works for you.

Best regards,

Thanks

Good solution, since some routers are placed with limited physical access to perform physical factory and reconfig. But this router was close by so I had already done factory reset.

But I hope it will come patch/update for avoid this issue?
