RUT241 client mode

Good afternoon,
I have a RUT241, and I want to make a simple configuration to connect an industrial PLC to this RUT, so that it connects to the client’s wifi, and to be able to access to program the PLC from any part of the factory by wifi.
At the moment I have installed a very basic TP-LINK WR80N, and everything works fine, but I want to install the RUT241, for security and robustness.

1: How do I connect the RUT241 as a client (I assume this is the case), to the client’s wifi? I have the correct IP range, SSID and password ok, as I have more devices connected on that network, for this same installation (HMIs, WISE, Robots, etc).

2: I don’t understand well the difference between WAN and LAN, could I put a switch in the LAN socket of the RUT241, and be able to connect more devices with fixed IP?

The equipment I have configured is as follows:

  • PLC (172.18.248.164) via LAN cable to the TPLINK (connected to client wifi ok).
  • ROBOT1 (172.18.248.144) connected to wifi client ok
  • ROBOT2 (172.18.248.153) connected to client wifi ok
  • HMI1 (172.18.248.160) connected to wifi client ok

Between all the devices there is perfect connectivity with TPLINK.

Can anyone have a tuto on how to make this connection?

Thank you very much and best regards!

Hi eljavichu,

Welcome to Teltonika Networks Community!

You can definitely connect RUT241 to client’s Wi-Fi by going to Network → Wireless → SSID → Click on scan 2.4 GHz. After selecting client’s Wi-Fi, it should have an assigned IP for the Wi-Fi Interface.

Basically if you want to provide IP address or internet to end device, you connect it to LAN interface. Then, if you want to provide internet to RUT241, utilize the WAN port. You are right, you can connect a switch to the LAN port to extend its LAN capabilities.

Let me know if this helps.
