RUT240 timeout issue (gsmd get: '+CMS ERROR: 500)

Hi,

Device: RUT240
Use case: send sms via post/get method.

Issue: we have been using these features for almost 2 years now. But recently (did not do any firmware update), for the past 2 months, we keep on having various issues. Randomly, the sms sending features will not work, and even a software/hard reboot will not solve the issue.
Then, without doing anything else, it will work again, usually within 24 hours.

I can ssh into the modem CLI, this is what I get from some of the commands:

My question is, how do solve this? We initially thought is was a simcard issue, but we have changed to another
simcard yesterday, it was working for 24 hours then the issue came up again (not sure the same error or not).

Any advise?

Thanks

Hello,

CMS ERROR 500 usually indicates an “unknown issue while delivering the message”. However, from your description of the issue, it seems like the issue could be coming from the operator side, since even the hard reboots do not help.
Was the other SIM card tested from the same operator? If yes, would it be possible to test the behavior with a different SIM?
Lastly, could you try disabling VoLTE in the Network → Mobile → General Settings menu and checking if the behavior is still present?

Best regards,

Hello,
Thanks for the fast response.
Yes, the two sim cards are from the same operator. I will try to get a sim from a different operator to test.

I did try to disable VoLTE just now, it still did not work.

Additional info, we have a 2G-only sim, it works fine on this particular modem (same operator as above).

Thanks

Hello,

If the device is only used for sending SMS messages, could you try setting it to 2G-only mode and check if that helps?

Hi,
Yes, I have tried to make it on 2G-only, but it did not help.

Thanks

Let me know if the SIM from a different operators works. It could be that the operator changed something within their SMS delivery system, so it’s hard to say for sure what could be the issue here. Could you try contacting them to find out if there have been any changes to the SMS service from their end?

Best regards,
