RUT X11 - fixed WAN questions

Hi Guys

A few WAN questions about RUTX_R_00.07.08.3 that I hope someone can shed some light onto:

1) When I change the V4 IP of the wan port (which is a static IP):

Why does eth1 lose its V4 address and obtain a v6 address when the WAN6 interface is
deleted from the GUI and DHCPV6 is disabled?

2) Why, when I give the ifconfig command via SSH as root does eth1 not show up ?
BR-WAN does when its enabled and WANV6 is deleted but with BR-WAN turned off eth1 is invisible - until you input ifconfig eth1

3) By default the WAN interface is zoned with SIM1 and 2 . I wish to remove it from that zone so that I can create an external DMZ (Zone WanDMZ) , which happens to also be a backup WAN. The goal is to have WAN subnet IP addresses accessible from OpenVPN - which seems impossible from the GUI ? If I am wrong, how can I achieve it please ?

Many thanks

regards

BB

OK so I have partly answered 3) myself - it was my misunderstanding of the firewall > Traffic rules page:

I incorrectly assumed that a “new forward rule” was a PORT forward and not a ZONE forward now that I appreciate the difference the answer is obvious.

Teltonika can I suggest you add the word ZONE into that GUI field please to prevent ambiguity ?

However, 1) and 2) Still look like a fault to me! so I cannot mark them as closed

regards

BB

Hi,

  1. I see you have wan type “bridge” so your eth1 is slave in br-wan bridge and IPV4 address will be on the bridge.
  2. ifconfig by default show only active/up network devices, if you would put ifconfig -a all devices would show up.
  3. You can control firewall zones in Firewall-General settings. You can create new zone and assign interface for it i.e. WAN. Then in the same page can change forwarding policy between zones or add traffic rules in another page for more specific rules.
