RUT-956 multiple DLMS meters via mutliple USB to RS-232 Converters

Does RUT-956 Models support the following

Multiple RS-232 to USB converters are connected to USB HUB
and the USB hub is connected to the USB port of RUT-956.

In DLMS Connection configuration will i be able to select connection
type as USB RS232 interface and further specify the specific serial device
corresponding to the USB serial converter ? ( thereby connecting multiple RS-232 DLMS meters
to the RUT-956 gateway )
Thanks

Hi there,

The setup that you have, although multiple devices are connected to a hub, will only support 1 device due to RS232 limitations.

You could potentially try RS-485 instead of 232, which might support more than 1 device at once, although not tested by us, it is worth a shot still.

M.

Thanks
Specifically i mean if i select connection type as “USB RS232 interface” will there be another drop-down which allows me to select the serial device ( Like /dev/serial5 )

Hello,

I’ll inquire with the R&D about this; perhaps they’ll be able to tell me more. I’ll get back to you once I have an answer.

Hi, @anz ,

Correction of my previous statements, I was completely wrong. Here’s what the R&D had to say:

  • You can connect multiple devices via a USB hub. They should all be visible under different names, and our DLMS service should handle all of them.
  • If you were to use an RS485 connection instead, it does provide more capabilities, when it comes to the client count; however, we have such limits in our WebUI: 10 connections, 30 physical devices, 10 groups with 20 values.

Kind regards,
M.

Does the imposed limit " 10 connections, 30 physical devices, 10 groups with 20 values." applicable to RS-485 case only . Are these limits present for RS-232 ? Specifically

RS-232 limits ?
RS-485 limist ?
Global Limits ?

Thanks

Hi there,

This applies to everything; it’s a global limit.

Regards,
M.

Are the limits just GUI limits ? Is there any way to configure directly ?

Hello,

These limits are both in the WebUI and in the config files. You won’t be able to exceed them.

M.
