RUT 956 M2M Sim with Port Forwarding

Hi everyone, Keen to get some assistance with something weird happening.

Using a RUT956 router with port forwarding for a CCTV deployment. Have been using a fixed IP address 4G sim which has previously been working, allowing access to router GUI, access to CCTV Camera GUI & finally, access for a remote monitoring station to view video etc.

Internal network layout is: RUT956 LAN 1 → POE Switch → 4 Cams.

Method of connecting is through the ports for example: 78.XX.XX.X:20001, which would load the GUI for cam 1…

Recently changed sim service provider and new sim cards, provider has supplied sims on a Public IP address on a M2M service, have been told that the sims are a fixed IP…

However, RUT956 has a data connection, have changed APN to m2m including any user and pass credentials as required, but no remote connection can be established to router OR any connected camera.

Myself and someone else have looked and confirmed that all the config is correct, various reboots etc but still nothing, sim company is looking at their end, just wanted to post here to see if there was anything stupidly obvious i/we have missed..

Router FW: RUT9M_R_00.07.18.1 (we know this isn’t the latest of latest but fairly recent.)

Greetings,

If the SIM card is the only thing that has changed, your configuration should remain the same and continue working as before.

Could you please navigate to Network → WAN and check whether the IP address shown for your active WAN interface is a public IP?

IP addresses within the ranges shown in the picture are private.

If the IP address on your WAN interface is public, try connecting a computer or phone to the router and visiting whatismyip.com. Compare the IP address shown on the website with the one displayed on your WAN interface. If they don’t match, then even though the address appears to be public, it is still behind CG-NAT, and port forwarding will not work in this case.

Justinas

You can find more information about public and private IPs in the article here: Private and Public IP Addresses - Teltonika Networks Wiki

This has been resolved.

An error in sim provider config was the cause.
