RTUX11 WiFi intercace

I am working with the Teltonika RUTX11 radio and would like to know if the two wifi interfaces of the radio radiate the same signal, and if I can use only one SISO antenna on each radio, for example, use a directional SISO antenna on the wifi interface 1 of all radios in the network.

Hello,

The two Wi-Fi interfaces of the RUTX11 do not radiate the same signal, as they operate on different frequency bands. The router supports MIMO technology, which enhances signal quality, throughput, and reliability by using multiple antennas per interface.

If you use only one SISO antenna per Wi-Fi interface, you will lose the benefits of MIMO, such as improved signal robustness and data rates. However, technically, you can use a directional SISO antenna on one Wi-Fi interface, but this will limit the router’s capabilities. For example:

  • If you use a directional antenna on the 2.4 GHz interface, the 5 GHz interface will still require its own antennas.
  • Using a single SISO antenna per interface will reduce the router’s ability to handle multiple spatial streams, which is a key feature of modern WiFi standards like 802.11ac.

Note: If you want to use directional antennas, consider using dual-band directional antennas that support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. This way, you can maintain MIMO capabilities for both interfaces.

If you have any additional questions, let me know.

Best regards,

Thank you Martynas for your answer.

I am using these radios in Brazil and it is difficult to find MIMO antennas on the market.

I have some directional antennas at 2.4GHz, with vertical polarization only, and I would like to use them for my application. I disabled the 5GHz interface of the radio and I am only using 2.4GHz. Which Wi-Fi connector should I connect the antenna to?
