We have an RTU 950 installed on our boat it is connected to two third party aerials, one is used for 3G/4g connections and the other it for Wi-Fi to connect to a hotspot in a marina we are visiting.
The problem is that we get better reception on both iPhones and iPads than we do on the rtu950 with external aerials.
My questions are as follows:
Teletronica sell an aerial called a PR1ICC60, does this aerial have 4 sma connectors and if so would I need just one of those to replace the two aerials I have? From the drawings it looks like the PR1ICC60 also requires a network connection is that correct and if so do I just connect it to port 1 of my Rtu950
what length of cables are supplied with the PR1ICC60?
What is the maximium distance for optimal performance of the aerial. My boat has a 25m mast so mounting it at the top should give the best range but that means long cable lengths my guess is that if I put the aerial at the top of the mast the cab,es would need to be 40m long is that too long?
Should I fit the PR1ICC60 or would a third party solution be better for me.
Lastly the rtu950 does not support 5G, is there a 5G version and if so does it work with the same aerial?
I believe we had a phone conversation for this query.
We have covered majority of the questions asked here. We covered the specs of PR1ICC60 antenna, covered the ports on the antenna, and the logic itself of what sort of device would help the client’s use case. Client was informed that the antenna does have connectors for Mobile, and wifi. It has a connector for GPS too, however that does not apply for RUT950.
Internet connection is needed, as that is what those antennas do, they initiate, and strengthen the connection.
Client was also advised to look into Pointyng portfolio, for stronger antennas. https://poynting.tech/
We did not speak about distance, however I did advise client that a mobile phone may have a stronger internet connection in the same spot, due to having a better mobile module, likely with carrier aggregation. I cannot advise specifically from what cable length the signal will start decreasing, as it all depends on the use case and signal strength on the given time. We do have a guide what are the preferred signal strengths, and some explanation : Mobile Signal Strength Recommendations - Teltonika Networks Wiki
In regards to a 5g device, with this external antenna there are no 5g devices.
