Routing between RUT 906 and RUT x50

I have a use case involving two Teltonika routers communicating over mobile SIM cards installed in each router.

One side uses a RUTX50 router connected to a device that sends data. The data needs to be transmitted through the cellular network to another Teltonika router installed at a remote site, where a PLC is connected.

The communication protocol between the device and the PLC is Modbus TCP.

Could you please advise on the best way to configure this setup?

Specifically:

  • Can this be achieved using a VPN between the two routers?
  • Which VPN type is recommended (WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPSec, etc.)?
  • Are there any specific settings required to ensure reliable Modbus TCP communication between the two sites?

Thank you for your support.

Hi…

Do you have the public ip address at the SIM CARD?

No?

Try… Zerotier… Create you own account there… and configure both devices to work with this account.

Zerotier is free for up to ten devices.

It sounds like you’ll need the Managed Routes functionality of ZeroTier, which tells devices where to send packets across subnets. If you have an existing ZeroTier logon for their Legacy UI then the service is free. New sign-ups no longer get this for free, and will require a subscription.

Hummm…

I don’t stop to look at the new access… I still using the old one.

yes, i have 2 sim cards with public ip address

Okay…

Do a test with the public ip address of your sim cards.

Enable remote access to your devices… httpS or ssh. Try to connect to both, using their public ip address.. Works?

Not work? You have a pubic ip address… but the mobile operator have a firewall that now allow the sim cards to receive external connection.

can you send me screenshots from configuration inside router webpage?
