Router/AP + AP setup problems

Hello,

I have problems with setting up firewall zones etc. for router/ap + ap setup and i getting infinity loops locally and no internet. dhcp server disabled on ap firewall opened (dump ap) and 802.11r setup i did this before with a fritzbox running as ip client and got same issues so i think it’s the main router. Network topology. RUTX50 – TP link passive PoE 48V 0.5A then lan to lan from PoE injector into rutm10 (dhcp disabled and static ip out of dhcp rutx50 range) same ssid with 802.11r etc.

I looking forward for a reply.

Hello,

For a better understanding of your setup, could you please provide a simple topology sketch showing how everything is connected, including the IP addresses and devices? Any additional information/clarifications would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, is the RUTX50 connected through a PoE injector to the RUTM10 LAN port, and are you powering the RUTM10 with passive PoE? Normally, in a setup like this, the RUTX50 LAN should connect to the WAN port of the RUTM10, but before suggesting any changes, I’d like to confirm your exact configuration.

Best regards,

Hello,

Thank you for sharing the topology. In your current setup there seems to be an IP conflict between the RUTX and RUTM LANs.

To clarify, in your setup, the RUTX50 LAN1 should be connected to the WAN port of the RUTM10. Before doing so, please change the LAN network subnet of the RUTM10 to a different one, e.g., 192.168.2.1/24.

If you require a DHCP relay on the RUTM10 (so that clients connected to it receive addresses from the RUTX50 DHCP pool), you can follow the guidelines provided in the article here:

If a DHCP relay is not required, then clients connected to the RUTM10 will need to be assigned IPs manually from its LAN subnet (e.g., 192.168.2.0/24).

In brief, the RUTX and RUTM should be connected LAN → WAN, and the RUTM must operate on a different LAN subnet than the RUTX.

Best regards,

Hello again,

Today I found out that my PC’s network card is faulty. Does that may cause break down the network? I will find out in a few hours or days that my network will be stable but im not sure about that.

Hello,

Thank you for the update. Could you please clarify how you determined that the PC’s network card is faulty? Do you mean the PCs that are connected to the RUTM10 LAN? Also, were you able to connect the RUTX50 LAN to the RUTM10 WAN and adjust the LAN subnet of RUTM as described previously?

Best regards,

yes, the pc is connected to the RUTM LAN port and the pc had problems 6 months ago that no Bluetooth was there I thought it was a firmware bug or something else wifi and ethernet worked without problems. Now since yesterday the ethernet trying minutes to connecting or the symbol (ethernet) is not there. I tried wifi but I get like 5-10mbits in up and down speed which makes no sense from the SNR values and BW. Sometimes it won’t do the 5Ghz band I extra disabled 802.11d to see if the problem still persists and no DFS channels.

Some additional information’s to my firewall and static routes

Hello,

Apologies for the delay.

Could you please confirm whether this issue is still relevant or if you have already found a solution?

If the problem persists, could you verify whether the RUTM LAN IP is set to 192.168.2.1/24? If so, please try removing the static lease for the RUTM from the RUTX and, in the RUTM WAN settings, change the protocol to DHCP.

If the issues with the RUTM access point continue, could you describe them in a bit more detail and clarify the main goal you want to achieve with this setup? Perhaps you are aiming to bridge the RUTX LAN with the RUTM WAN (either wirelessly or wiredly), as explained in the wiki article here?

Best regards,

Hello again,

My main goal was via wired via rutx50 to rutm10 ( lan to lan) with same said and 802.11r to move between rooms in my flat with small delay (like calls) and good throughput via Access points (no mesh).

Now I did lan to wan, no 802.11r worked anymore (takes a few sec to connect to other ap). In addition I got problems with Apple devices disconnecting which I did fix via disabling disconnect on low ack.

No crashes on my network anymore with lan to wan.

I can test disable static and make DHCP and describing the problem when it happens and running logread in background.

Last thing what I can try to do is buying longer Ethernet cable and connecting it into rutx50 not into tplink poe lan port and then to rutm10 lan port doing rutm10 dump ap mode etc. and see if the problem persists.
