Roaming setup on configurator for FMB & FMC series (operator typing)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently testing a multi-operator roaming SIM card in Indonesia with Teltonika FMC and FMB series devices.

I have a few questions about how roaming works on these devices:

  1. Is data roaming enabled automatically by default, or is there any setting that needs to be enabled in the Configurator?

  2. If roaming is automatic, what is the purpose of the Roaming Operator List?

  3. If I leave the Roaming Operator List empty, will the device still be able to connect to any available roaming network automatically?

  4. If I do need to populate the Roaming Operator List, should I enter the network identifiers (MCC/MNC or PLMN) or the commercial operator names (e.g. Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata)?

My SIM is a multi-operator roaming SIM that can connect to several mobile networks within Indonesia, so I want to make sure I’m configuring the devices correctly.

Thank you in advance!

Good day,
Thank you for the query.

Answer to your question:

  1. Yes, the process is automatically enabled. However, the SIM cards should activate roaming and have roaming packet.

  2. Configuring device roaming is recommended to optimize device performance by mitigating additional latency to search for roaming operator. For example, if the whitelist is empty. The search will go through the operator codes to the black list and find the strongest signal operator. While if the operator code is within the whitelist, the black list checking will be skipped and only find the strongest signal from the white list.

  3. Yes, however your operator status will be in Unknown, which would leads to different data acquistion frequency if you have configured three different acquisition frequency in each network mode.

  4. The roaming operator list should be filled with MCCMNC.
