I have a Linux (Ubuntu) device behind a RUTX10 which has Remote Access enabled. The RDP option is shown when I do an Auto Scan to add a remote access link in RMS.
When I try to connect, it fails. I get a Timeout error.
When I connect my (windows) laptop to the RUTX10, I am able to connect to it using RDP.
When I setup a VPN connection, I can also log into the Linux device using the ‘Remote Desktop Connection’ app on my windows PC, using the IP address of the Linux device as computer name.
Would it be possible to remote connect to a Linux device using the browser and RMS?
If not, would it be possible to connect using the Windows ‘Remote Desktop Connection’ App on my windows PC? If so, what do I use as a computer name? The remote access link is not accepted as a valid computer name…
It should be possible to connect to your Linux device via RMS using the RDP/VNC protocol. In some cases, it also may be necessary to create a port forwarding rule. For that, when logged on to the device’s WebUI, navigate to Network → Firewall → Port Forwards page and create new port forward with the following settings:
(select Linux device’s LAN IP in the “Internal IP address” field; “Internal port” can be left to No rewrite)
Additionally, for testing purposes, you could check the VNC protocol as an alternative for remote desktop access. Please refer to the following video guide to ensure the setup on your Linux device is correct:
