Good morning,
my newly purchased OTD500 with the current firmware shows a modem temperature of 90 degrees or more. Can this be, or is this a bug?
Dirk

Under load, the modem heats up to 98°C. Parts of the frequency bands—in my case, 5GN1—are disconnected. Occasionally, the modem completely loses its network connection and restarts. It is currently installed indoors at a room temperature of 22°C. Without any load—i.e., no downloading or streaming—the temperature hovers around 82–85°C.
As it stands, the modem is useless. It remains unclear whether it suffers from a technical defect.
A log file has been generated. Where can I upload it?
Serial of the Unit is 6010094724 , HW Version 0003, Batch 0020
I have registered the modem for an exchange with the supplier, Jacob Elektronik.
Let’s see if the replacement unit works any better.
Maybe the same reason ?
Hello,
Thank you for the detailed information.
Before proceeding, I would like to ask a few additional questions:
Please let us know the answers to the questions above, as they may help us better understand the situation and identify whether this behavior is isolated to a single unit.
Best regards,
Povilas
Hi Povilas,
find my answers below
I did get the Modem last week an download the e-SIM and make a firmware and modem update. During this i did see the temperature rises to around 80 °C.
I did make some Speedtest over tge Web-UI of the OTD500 and the temperature rises to 98 °C and the Modem disconnects from the mobile network and reboots. Than its reconnect to the 5G network and i was able to reconnect to the web-if and to the web.
I did not hafe a other Teltonika OTD here, sorry for that.
The OTD ist powered over a Ubiquiti POE+++ switch. My OTD did come without a POE injector.
Today i did some more tests.
The OTD ist installed indoor in my office. The temperature there is 22 °C. In case of very low throughput at the up- and downlink the modem is about 62-65 °C. In my opinion at an ambient temperature of 22°C to hight. The modem is designed for ambient temperatures of 55 degrees.
I did start a upload of a 8 GB file to my MS One-Drive. In less minutes the temperature of the modem goes up to 99 degrees. It´s look like the Modem has a problem withe CPU load during at high traffic. The connection to the Network Deutsche Telekom via NAS 5G. I use only a e-SIM. The Modem works in NAT mode.
As you can see in the last screenshots the modem disconnects from the Network an reconnects until the temperature grows up again.
Can i ask a silly question!?
The room temperature may be 22 degrees, but is the router placed near a heat source such as a radiator or for example on a window cill where the sun shines on it? Is it covered in some way or in a confined space with other objects very close or even in contact with the router trapping internal heat not allowing it to cool?
Mines indoors in a north facing room in the shade at a room temp of 22’ish and the routers temp is a constant 45 degrees.
Hi akwe-xavante,
its not covered and there is no radiator. No window with sun.
My office is also a north facing room ![]()
By the way, its a Moden for outdoor use until 55 °C.
I think there must be something wrong with the unit itself or the modem sw/fw.
“Mines indoors in a north facing room in the shade at a room temp of 22’ish and the routers temp is a constant 45 degrees.”
I did expect your values also in my use case.
Hi Povilas,
i did also add some new screenshots and informations to my post from today
Can you maybe post your FW and Modem FW informations ?
What HW Version and Batch is your unit ?
I don’t have a OTD500 myself, mines a RUTX50. Mt question was rather generic.
Is it possible that the recorded temperature is incorrect? At these temperatures can you pick the router up and firmly hold it in your hand without letting go and dropping it!? I’m guessing it would be almost impossible to hold it in your hand at these temperatures.
Is the power adapter / supply also very hot? The cable between the two, is it very warm / hot to touch and hold?

i did get the Mail for private communication.
I will take the file soon and i will send it via the private communication to you.

Hi Povilas,
i take the file an filled out the form for private communication.
what are the next steps ? Where i can upload the file ?
I also have a big problem with my seller. He does not respond to my complaint, he is not reachable by phone, and does not respond to my emails. At the moment, I have a useless device and the seller has my money.
Could Teltonika carry out the exchange of the OTD500 here? I have a data plan with my mobile network operator that I cannot use and I also bought an RMS license for 3 years.
I am really frustrated.
Don’t know where you are in the world or what the distance selling rules for the country where you live are, but generally you can back charge on your card if the seller isn’t cooperating to get your money back that way.
To start the back charge process you’ll need to contact your card company.
Hi Povilas,
i did send you the File last week.
Any update from your side ?

We have forwarded the provided information, along with the troubleshoot files, to our R&D team for further investigation and are currently awaiting their response.
We will keep you informed and update you as soon as we receive any new information.
