Optimal configuration for rut241 IOT?

Given that Sim cards for IOT have limited traffic capacity, can someone tell me what is the best router configuration to avoid unnecessary and optimized data traffic or where can I find that information?
Greetings and thanks

Hi FRAN1,

Welcome to Teltonika Networks Community!

You can try to go to Status → Services. Then, disable unwanted features to lessen activity in the router. Apart from that, you can also disable interfaces such as Wi-Fi instance. Lastly, you can add a traffic rule that will ensure that the needed traffic will be accepted, and others will be dropped.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Hello, JanMiguel thanks for your reply.

Regarding the traffic rule, can you give a more detailed example?
And what about the firewall, is there any special consideration to be taken into account? Like open or closed ports?

I think they should make a detailed guide on this topic, or if there is one I would be happy to read it, since IoT communication, for example MQTT, is used more and more and you have to have an optimal configuration in the use of data since SIM cards have data usage limits, and using only non-necessary data is very important.

For example, I think that an optimal configuration for the use of IoT MQTT would be to have all WAN ports closed and ignore any external request that is not for the port and the use of MQTT by assigning, but to have a rule that if X message is received by SMS, the ports necessary for the configuration of the router are opened to be able to access and configure it if necessary. In the same way, if you receive another XX SMS, the router will be closed again. Of course, to do this, you need a high level of knowledge of router configuration and how to do it.

When you use a router like yours, to serve internet to the IoT devices connected to the network, it has to be very well configured so that only the necessary resources are used. Your routers allow many settings in this regard, which makes it difficult for those of us who are not used to this level of configuration to know what has to be active, what not, and how to configure it.

When the GSM network is normal and there are no data limits because data rates are flat, the configuration is not so important and you can afford to spend data unnecessarily.
