NUT Server Support for Eaton UPS via USB on RUTX12

I checked the available services on my RUTX12 but couldn’t find an option for running a NUT (Network UPS Tools) server.

Since the device has a USB port, it would be very useful if a NUT server could run directly on the router and be made externally accessible. I’m not sure if that’s currently supported, but it would be an excellent addition.

I’m using an Eaton UPS (EL800USBIEC), which only communicates via USB. As the devices are physically isolated for most of the year and power outages are frequent, having remote UPS monitoring is essential. Without USB-over-IP or similar solutions, a NUT server would be the most reliable option.

I’d appreciate any recommendations on how to best achieve this. I’m also considering integrating a Raspberry Pi as a lightweight, dedicated NUT host—but ideally, I’d prefer a native solution within the router’s firmware.

Thank you!

Hello,

At the moment, RutOS does not natively support running a NUT (Network UPS Tools) server directly on the router, and unfortunately there’s no official package available for installation via the WebUI Package Manager. While the RUTX12 features a USB port, its officially supported functions currently include external modem, storage, and serial adapter connections.

That said, the RUTX12 does support Serial over IP functionality, which allows you to manage serial connections over a TCP/IP network. If your UPS had a serial output option or if a serial-to-USB adapter setup was feasible on the UPS side, this could potentially act as a workaround. You can find more information on the Serial over IP feature here:
