No Mobile connection with RUTX50

Hi

i am a Teltonika newbie, and have a configuration with the latest update (FW and Modem). Everything seems to work fine.

I am running a mobile Sim2 (Sim1 is empty) with activation and the APN from the provider should also be running.

Everything seems to be in green mode, but there no internet. Tried to ping on 8.8.8.8 but I assume there is another issue. Low signal? Missing route?

Hi,

Most definitely will be the signals. You look to have internet, or at least, you seem to be connected, as the Data connection state shows connected, but your speeds are probably so slow, that pings just simply don’t go through. Besides physically using better antennas, placing the device in a better area, double-checking your providers coverage in the area, you can also try Band locking, basically go through each and every single band 1-by-1 to check which one gives you better signal (aim for at least Good, worst case, fair-to-poor) and see if that helps: Band Lock - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Other than that, I don’t believe much can be done, besides the options I’ve stated above. Unless you have a SIM card from a different provider you could test? I’ve seen some cases where one provider had terrible signal strengths in this same screen, others had excellent/good signals.

P.S: I suggest removing/editing the image, as your IP address, IMSI, ICCID, are visible, which is a slight no-no when it comes to security, stay safe :wink:

As @minecraft_creeperis says, it is most likely your signal strengths.

A couple of our devices are in mountainous locations and all I can do is share what we have found that works best for us.

So, assuming you have tried the suggestions above, then ….

a) we manually set the apn

b) we asked local people, what the best provider was for the location

c) we found better stability setting the device to 4G only, if we set it to 5G/4G/3G Auto, the devices would connect to 5G but we experienced frequent dropouts

d) at first we replaced the standard antennas with a good quality omni-directional one, the Poynting XPOL-1-5G SKU A-XPOL-0001-V2-41 - this definately improved things but still had reasonably frequent dropouts, mostly when heavy snow, rain or dense cloud moved in

e) having run the omni-directional antennas for a few months, we replaced them with uni-directional ones, the Poynting XPOL-24 SKU A-XPOL-0024-V1-01 and finally had a solid, stable connection - ensure you know the location(s) of your provider’s transmitting masts

Given the cost of good quality antennas, this can be expensive to experiment with, once you start playing with uni-directional antennas.

Due to signal reflection off mountains, SOMETIMES you can achieve better reception by not pointing antennas directly towards the mast.
