No IPv4 address in passthrough mode (TRB500)

I have setup a TRB500 in passthrough mode with a pfsense firewall behind the TRB500. The TRB500 will be used as failover WAN for pfsense.

On the WAN→mobile configuration I have configured:

Mode. Passthrough
PDP type: IPv4/IPv6
Lease time: 6 hours
MAC address: [MAC of WAN2 on pfsense]

DHCP server is disabled in the TRB500 LAN settings.

The IP from the ISP (mobile) is a public IPv4 address 100.82.X.X (I can use IPv4 or IPv6 but I have configured IPv4 in TRB500).

I have tried PDP type: IPv4/IPv6 and IPv4 only, but I can only get an IPv6 address assigned to WAN2 in pfsense. Do I have to enable the DHCP-server on TRB500 LAN in order to get the IPv4 100.82.X.X address forwarded to pfsense?

I had to enable DHCP IPv4 on TRB500 LAN. After that the correct WAN IP was passed on to pfsense

Hello @nicklas,

Could you kindly confirm whether the issue has been resolved or if you require any further assistance?

Best regards,

@nicklas be aware that the TRB500 in IP address passthrough mode is considerably slower than in NAT mode! With passthrough mode you will not achieve more than about 200-250 Mbit/s, with NAT mode it is much closer to the maximum 1Gbit/s determined by the LAN interface.

Of course that doesn’t matter when your ISP does not provide you more than this speed at your location, or when you don’t care about this and rather avoid the triple NAT.
