After updating the firmware via Bluetooth, the PC cannot reconnect to the tracker.
Teltonika Configurator (v1.8.10…) reported that the firmware update (from 03.29… to 04.00.00.Rev.13) was successful, but that it could not reconnect.
The PC can see the tracker via BT, and requests the PIN, but then will not connect - it suggests trying again. I have tried two PCs, one Windows 10, the other Windows 11.
I have tried removing and reapplying external power (ignition off).
Tracker is set for Deep Sleep, with Bluetooth in Sleep Mode set to Enable, and it is running; it periodically wakes up and reports to my server.
This was eventually ‘fixed’ by disconnecting the BMW CANbus-connected battery charger from the motorcycle the tracker is fitted to. After this, the PC / Configurator was immediately able to connect.
As the only connections to the FMC920 are +12V, Ground, and Acc, perhaps noise was being introduced either directly (conducted) to the tracker, to which it took exception, or to the Bluetooth band.
However, I was able to update the firmware, via Bluetooth, but was then unable to connect via Bluetooth once the new firmware had been installed (all while the charger was connected).
So, what was changed in the firmware, which could explain this?
Please note that for FMC920 devices, firmware version 04.00.00.Rev.14 should be used.
We generally recommend updating the firmware via a USB serial connection or FOTA, as the Bluetooth connection can sometimes be unstable during the update process.
For now, please check the COM Port section and confirm whether the Bluetooth Serial Port is available for connection, as shown below.
Also, please completely power off the device by disconnecting both the external power supply and the internal battery, then reconnect it and check the Bluetooth connection again.
Additionally, please verify that the power connections are properly connected and stable.
For configuration, make sure you are using the recommended Configurator version, which can be found at the link below. For the firmware errata/release notes, please refer to the link below as well.
Thank you for your response but, as I’ve said above, I did manage to reconnect the PC to the tracker via Bluetooth, after disconnecting the battery charger.
So the question became: is there any change in the latest firmware version, vs. the previous version, which could explain this? E.g. has the criteria for ‘stable’ (for the power supply) changed?
I don’t recall there being a problem connecting to the tracker via Bluetooth whilst the charger was connected, using the previous version firmware.
I’m really asking this out of interest / curiosity, but also assuming that it’s something that Teltonika would wish to know about, i.e. if there were a problem connecting via BT to a tracker, which is caused by battery charger connection.
