FMC880 – Towing Detection Delayed

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Teltonika FMC880 for theft protection and towing detection. While testing the setup, I noticed that towing-related alerts are either heavily delayed or sometimes do not trigger at all.

Current configuration:

  • Sleep Mode: GPS Sleep (Type 1)

  • Network Ping: 300 s

  • Send Period (On Stop): 120 s

  • Min Records: 1

  • Accelerometer calibrated (Quality 1.00)

  • Towing detection enabled

What confuses me is the following:

  • Some events arrive within a few seconds.

  • Other events are delayed by 1–9 minutes.

  • In one test I physically moved the vehicle several meters with the ignition OFF and no towing event was generated.

  • According to the connection logs, the device appears to close the TCP connection regularly while in GPS Sleep.

  • Because of this, Network Ping does not always seem to have the expected effect.

My goal is to receive a towing or theft notification as quickly as possible after the vehicle starts moving.

I would prefer not to disable GPS Sleep because some vehicles remain parked for extended periods and battery consumption is an important consideration.

I would be especially interested in hearing from users who have deployed FMC880 devices for theft protection and can share their experience regarding towing detection reliability and notification delays.

Based on the provided information, it appears that the TCP connection is closing irregularly, which may be causing delays in the towing detection events being sent by the device.

The TCP connection may be closing due to network coverage issues or other connectivity-related factors. To analyze the root cause further, device logs would be required.
