FMC003 does save records but does not send them

Hi,

I have a FMC003 device I could connect to via the configurator tool. I attached screenshots from the main configuration tabs.

My setup:

FMC003 powered with 24V from power supply (pin 16 for positive potential and 4, 5 for GND). I also tried to power it by plugging it into the OBD plug of my car: same symptoms.
Configurator connected via USB to my computer.
SIM Card from local (Switzerland) provider (Wingo). I could use the SIM card in a smartphone and I could send SMS, make phone call and load internet content with it. So it seems to work properly.
On demo.traccar.org, I added a device with IMEI: 862272082689003 as it can be seen in the screenshot.

The problem:
No records are sent. In GSM Status I can see that an operator is found (22801 corresponds to Wingo/Swisscom), the SIM Card is ready, FMC003 gets excellent signal level but GPRS Status stays deactivated. However, I could observe GPRS status getting activated for a short time and then switching to deactivated again.
Sent records count does not increase (still 0), SMS count stays 0 even I sent an SMS to it when inserted in FMC003 (with my private phone number), GPRS traffic stays at 0.
When I download the saved records with “Read Records”, I get a binary format which I cannot read. However, the file size increases with time and when downloading I can see that memory contains valid records. On Traccar side the device is offline.

So I am quite lost now and I make this post to get some support and make it work ! I hope they are some genius guys around !

Have got the same issue. Mine was okay but now is same as yours. Tried multiple working Sims some go active but still do not send data

Removed as not the case. Seems to be no matter what network avl sending just doesn’t happen.

Update nothing has changed and now all of a sudden it’s started working again.

30-40 power cycles.

2 known working SIM cards

Multiple setting changes

And nothing would make it send data.

Today for no reason it has started sending data again, loaded original settings it had prior to issue and still sending data. Very confused

Hi, maybe check I/O tab and change something there long time ago that i set mine up, had also trouble in the beginning.
never got it work with traccar (3 years ago), build up my own nodeRed

mine crashed with same behavior after firmware upgrade to latest

after the upgrade it lasted just 1day

Interesting. I will try with another server then but for the moment the issue cannot be the server. We have a network registration problem.

Nope. In the next days I will try with a another SIM card and two other devices (a new FMC003 to exclude hardware failure on the previous one and FMC920). This shall allow me to exclude some failure cases. I’ll come back to give you an update.

And it’s stopped again!! Same as before. Cannot call SIM, it does not ring. GPRS status deactivated and data no longer sending. It lasted 4 day’s.

There’s plenty data left on SIM and it works in phone. Something is definitely up with these devices since firmware update.

Hmm interesting.

How do you power the device ? Over OBD plug of any car or via a separate power supply ?
If you flash a previous firmware version, does it work again ?
Did you report the case to Teltonika ? Or find any other known report about the new firmware ?

It seems we do all have the same issue.

It’s currently in a vehicle so OBD. However when this happened I did have it on desk and was manually powered up.

There’s a firmware lockout so cannot go back to fw version 3.

Issue remained on 04.01.00.Rev.12 and 04.01.00.Rev.13.

Never had any issues on the older firmware.

Raised a case with support weeks ago and have heard nothing.

Still not working. What’s the status of your devices? Have you pulled a few minutes of logging to see if it’s the same issues?

I get it work ! I identified two main issues:

After firmware upgrade, you have to make “Reset configuration” and then configure the device back as you had it before the upgrade. I do not know why this is needed but it solved the issue.
You have to be very careful about the GND potential of the supply and of the computer when you connect FMC003 to the computer via USB cable. Supply GND and computer GND might differ and this potential difference might destroy sensitive circuits.
I did not try again with the other SIM but I got it work with a IoT SIM (simbase) and not a real phone SIM.

I am pretty sure the reset of the configuration is needed since it made the device working again. However I am not sure the potential difference between GNDs really destroyed something but I could not bring devices with such setup explained in point 2 back functioning so something went definitively wrong.

Please explain more about GND and where this has come from? I was powering device from OBD test rig that just supplies power.

I will give device reset and reconfigure as you suggest, however I think issue will remain. At least in my instance it seems to be signal related, device report’s excellent signal on GSM page (GPRS Disconnected) but logs show signal is almost non existent or has lots of noise. Also logs shows the device tries to ask to join as IMS which is Volte and most IOT sims do not have as no voice which gets denied as SIM is data only.

Also worth noting mine did start working but lasted like a week before it stopped working again.
