In my RUT M30 I was presented with the update of the internal modem firmware version from my previous RG520NEBDCR03A05M4G to RG520NEBDCR03A06M4G which I did and it was reported as “completed successfully”.
Now I have connection issues on the RUT M30: It slowly blinks the 5G-mobile-LED (3 bars) in red while the WiFi-LED cycles amber-green-blue. I updated the modem while being on device firmware 7.23.0. After that, I updated the device to 7.23.5 but that didn’t change anything. On my second RUT M30 I then skipped the modem update and updated to 7.23.5 and everything works as before, so it is not the device firmware version or any of our 5G infrastructure that has an issue.
The faulty device reports
“All available APNs were tried on the 5gmob1s1a1 interface, unable to make connection to operator, try to enter custom APN or adjust mobile settings to make connection”
Sometimes it shows very briefly the network in “https://192.168.1.1/status/network/mobile” but also other 5G networks it should not connect to as it is configured to only connect to our 5G standalone network.
Very briefly it shows the correct IMSI of the SIM card and a suitable ICCID. It sometimes also shows the correct Cell ID, the correct band 5G N78, the correct ARFCN, the correct Mobile country code and the Mobile network code. At the same time it says: “Data connection state: Disconnected” but “Connection stage: Setup complete”. When it succeeds to show signal quality measurements, it reports “Connection stage: Unknown” while it properly shows good signal strengths.
Due to the modem update policy I cannot downgrade the device’s modem firmware to the A05 version. How do I fix this? Can I do something about it in the CLI shell?
After reinstalling the firmware, please verify whether the issue has been resolved.
If the issue persists, reproduce it and download a new troubleshooting file immediately afterwards.
Please note that both troubleshooting files will be required for further investigation if the issue is not resolved following the bootloader procedure.
OK now I could do all of the above.
I had already done a full reset by long-pressing the reset button, but there was no change. With the bootloader-based update I changed also from 7.23.5 to 7.23.6 but nothing changed. The issue is the modem firmware and not the device firmware.
I can’t upload the troubleshooting logs as my user is too new.
The LED blinking is unchanged to before.
EDIT: To be clear, the updated version RG520NEBDCR03A06M4G is causing problems for me while the older RG520NEBDCR03A05M4G worked. At least it gave no immediate errors.
I am on RG520NEBDCR03A06M4G but don’t see any sub-versioning. If you tell me how to obtain the sub-version, I will check.
I for the first time also got a message in the message center (bell icon) that says:
“Mobile 5GMM reject cause: N1 mode not allowed”
However, I was not in reach of our 5G SA network in this case.
Thank you. I sent them already troubleshooting files but haven’t heard back.
I also tried to reboot the modem with gsmctl -Q and to set it to debug with gsmctl -D but the issue remains.
