Hello everybody,
we want to use a physical plastic eSIM plugged into the TRM500 SIM slot. The problem is to activate the profile on the eSIM. I have a few questions about this:
- Which mobile module is used in the TRM500 (Quectel 5G-Modul RM500U)?
- Is there a TRM500 version with eSIM as an option (there is nothing about this on the website, but perhaps a corresponding footprint is available as an option for mounting an eSIM chip)?
- Is it general possible to use a plastic eSIM on the TRM500?
- If so, how should the eSIM activated?
Approach 1:
The used eSIM has a preconfigured bootstrap profile, so that the module starts the connection to the SM-DP+ Server automaticcaly and loads the profile. Is this possible? Has anyone ever successfully tested this with the TRM500?
Approach 2:
The host acts as a communication channel between the module and the SM-DP+ server (e.g., via WLAN). The host connects to the SM-DP+ server and uses the serial interface (USB) to the TRM500 to communicate with the module/eSIM. In this case, the TRM500 should fully support the AT+CSIM command. Is this possible? It seems like a lot of effort on the host’s side, but maybe there are some reference projects we could use as a starting point. Has anyone ever successfully tested this with the TRM500?
Many thanks in advance for any help and advice in the right direction.
Maik
