Download rate bad

For the past 2 weeks, I have had a very poor download rate. RUTM51 on the 5G network, previously 100MBit was available. That’s provided by Congstar. Okay. I am standing next to the RUTM51 with my phone and get 100MBit, but the router delivers a maximum of 30MBit. A factory reset today has brought no change. Only the 4G LED lights up on the router, not the 5G. But why so suddenly?

Greetings,

Speeds depend on the providers & on the external factors, such as environment, signal strengths, etc. Regarding signal strengths, those are usually the main factor for slower internet speeds, or frequent disconnection issues, so please do check whether the signal strengths you’re getting are at least in the Good range. To find the signal strengths, you can login to the WebUI of your RUTM51, and head to Status → Network → Mobile, there you will see values such as RSSI, RSRP, SINR, RSRQ. You want those to be at least around the “Good” range if you want to experience somewhat decent speeds; Some strength recommendations can be found in this Wiki page: Mobile Signal Strength Recommendations - Teltonika Networks Wiki

You may also try band locking onto certain mobile frequency bands - at least one of them should provide better speeds & signal strengths than others, depending on how heavy the traffic on them is: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Band_Lock#

This could very well indicate the fact that your router is simply not connecting to the 5G network, due to the coverage being worse than expected, or, as mentioned, the signal strengths not being good enough. Head to Status → Network → Mobile and send us a screenshot (blur out your IP addresses, MAC addresses, IMEI, or any other sensitive data).

What I just don’t understand is why, after 4 months, there are suddenly these abrupt reception drops while surfing. At least 4G should allow smooth reception. I take my cheap ASUS 4G LTE router from the motorhome, insert the SIM card from the RUT into it, place it next to the RUT, and have flawless, continuous 4G reception for hours—that’s what I don’t understand. Is the RUT defective?

I can not upload any files such as logs and screenshots. Because, i’m a new user, so the system is reporting.

Hi, @airdriver ,

I’ve edited your permissions so you’re able to post screenshots now. Please be careful with the information visible within the logs and/or screenshots. Make sure to blur out any Public IP addresses, MAC Addresses, phone numbers, passwords, etc.

I am sending the current event logs and a photo showing the cheap ASUS (4G)router next to the RUTM51 with full signal strength. On the RUTM%1, I have disabled IPv6 and enabled ping reconnect. All without success. The router suddenly fails, the download speed drops. Even during the speed test, it regularly disconnects because it loses the connection to the Telekom server. Regards Juergen

Hello, airdriver,

I’d like to schedule a remote session with you to perform a modem firmware upgrade. It will require you to set up a wired internet connection to the RUTM51, although not a guarantee, this may help with your speeds. I have sent you a form to fill out, which you will receive in your e-mail inbox that you have registered your account with in the forums. In the Ticket ID field of the form, please enter the ID of this thread, which is 15995.

Thank you,
M.

Greetings,

The issue has been resolved by upgrading the modem firmware.

Regards,
M.
