Can't access RUT955 anymore

Hello. I setup a new RUT955 last week. The default setup went fine, and I was able to activate both sims for internet access. I then changed the default password and added another SSID. Both SSIDs worked fine.

Because I needed a specific sensor to connect to the RUT955, I changed the default 192.168.1.x address range to: 172.16.244.1 (and 255.255.255.0, DNS: 8.8.8.8, DHCP enabled with range 172.16.244.132-172.16.244.249)

The system was rebooted and I used WiFi to get to the webui on 172.16.244.1. The UI opened, but, as I tried logging in the UI kept spinning and not letting me in, no matter how long I waited. After several resets no change. I then did a “factory reset” (holding reset while powering on for 12-15 sec). Results:

  • Default WiFi is available (but no internet)
  • The UI no longer appears (not responding)
  • I can ping the 172.16.244.1 IP address from either a LAN connection or connected to the default Wifi

How would I get control back again? I’ve tried SSH using LAN port (ssh admin@172.16.244.1) but the passwords (original and new) are not accepted. But I’m not sure if that’s the RUT955 or my PC responding. What else can be done to revive the router?

Hi,

After factory reset, the IP address will go back to default 192.168.1.1

To login using SSH you need use root and not admin, e.g. root@192.168.1.1

Thank you for responding.

I thought so too but, using ethernet cable I can’t ping 192.168.1.1 but pinging 172.16.244.1 does respond. But you’re also saying that the factory reset did not work as it supposed to (because IP address was not reset to default). I held the reset for 12-15 seconds. Should I hold the reset longer?

It should be enough (12-20 seconds).

You could try enter bootloader menu and upload newest/current FW there so it will automatically factory reset device.

The root instead of Admin did the trick. I was able to reboot and get back on board. Thanks for the advice
