Alerts & Automations (beta) - Send Email

Hello,

I can see multiple threads relating to this, but they do not contain the exact information I am looking for. With threads closing after 14 days - it’s causing people/me to create multiple similar threads :-(.

I am testing alerts for a device (RUT240). I would RMS to email me when the device goes offline but with a delay of 24 hours. After that time if the device doesn’t come back online, it would notify me. I have successfully got the notification working but not the delay.

From my understanding of the ‘delay’ feature; The minimum delay repetition is 2. Therefore the device would have to go offline, then go back online, and then back offline again within the time frame set for this to work. So if the device simply goes offline and then doesn’t come back online at all, I will not be notified? Is this how it works?

If I leave the delay off altogether, a temporary power outage will trigger an email instantly. With my devices being on building sites primarily, they will go off and on from time to time, deeming this method unsuitable too.

Is there a solution to this? Thank you in advance for your time

Hello,

The minimum delay repetition is 2, meaning that the condition (in this case, the device going offline) must occur at least twice within the specified delay time (24 hours) before the alert is triggered.

RMS will wait for the condition (device offline) to occur twice within the specified delay period. Once the condition happens the second time, the alert will be triggered.

Best regards,

OK. Thank you for the reply.

I would like to be notified when the device has been offline for, say, 24 hours? Is this possible or is there a workaround?

It doesn’t make sense (to me) that in order to be notified, the device has to go offline twice. What if it goes offline, then doesn’t go back online? That means I won’t be notified at all?

In my use case, the device may go offline for short periods, and therefore, I do not wish to be notified of this only if the period of offline goes beyond an unexpected amount of time.

Hello,

Unfortunately, RMS does not have the functionality you’re requesting. However, I will forward this to our RMS administrators and let you know if it could be implemented in the future.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

That’s a shame. I would have thought that would be a basic functionality of a ‘delay’ feature. Thank you for your time. If this gets added as a feature, please let me know.

Hello,

The functionality will most likely be implemented in the future.

For now, there is a workaround you can try if you want to receive an email after your device has been offline for 24 hours:

  1. Use the Delay function:
  • Set Delay (s): 86400 (1 day)
  • Set Delay repetition: 1380 (1 day - 1 hour)

This setup will trigger an alert only if the device has been offline for approximately 24 hours. If the device remains offline, the alert will repeat every 23 hours (to account for slight variations).

Best regards,
