Advices on fuel consumption measurement on heavy trucks

Hello community ,

I’m struggling with finding the best solution to get fuel consumption measurement system compatible with all heavy trucks, I eventually decided to use CAN bus data as it’s widely used and supposed to be easy to setup.

Using FMS plug and FMC640/650, I can get “Fuel Level” (io87) and “Total Fuel Used” (io86) from CAN bus, should I look for other fuel parameters on CAN bus ?

Can I expect to get the same parameters on a truck without FMS plug using FMC650 and ECAN02 ?

I’m looking for advices on the best practice to get fuel consumption from CAN with Teltonika trackers for heavy trucks, any info or advice will be welcome ( like how the biggest company on the market are measuring data consumption, which parameters do they use, etc …)

Many thanks for your help :handshake:,

Adrien

Hi Adrien,

Welcome to the Teltonika Community Forum

ECAN02 could be connected to FMC650 to read J1939 CAN Data from Heavy Vehicles. Meanwhile, FMS Parameters related to Fuel Level can be referred to through this link: https://wiki.teltonika-gps.com/view/FMC650_Teltonika_Data_Sending_Parameters_ID#FMS_elements

Moreover, we also have External CAN Adapters such as LVCAN200 and ALLCAN300 which need to be connected to FMX1X0 or FMX6X0 devices. More information can be referred on the link below:

LVCAN200: LV-CAN200 - Wiki Knowledge Base | Teltonika GPS
ALLCAN300: ALL-CAN300 - Wiki Knowledge Base | Teltonika GPS

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Patrick S.

Hi @omerr311,

Kindly create a separate thread for your query so you can easily Backtrack on it

Meanwhile, in the Configurator there are Multipliers that were required so that you could get the exact readings from the sensor. In this case, for Dallas Temperature 1 the value received was 285 which corresponds to 28.5 due to 0.1 Multiplier.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Patrick
